August 26, 2010 – Returning with the party anthem of the summer, ever-glamorous KACI BATTAGLIA has done it again, following up her hit single “Crazy Possessive,” with yet another smash: “Body Shots” featuring super-star rapper LUDACRIS.  Already exploding at radio and charting in clubs across the country, Kaci welcomes the reception with open arms, as she awaits the release of her aptly titled album “Bring It On” (Curb Records) on September 21st.

Based on a conversation that Kaci had had with some of her girlfriends right before her 21st birthday, “Body Shots’” sassy lyrics were penned by Battaglia, who has co-written all of the songs on her upcoming release.  “I had been talking to some of my friends about what we were going to do when I turned 21,” Kaci explains “and they were pushing for me to try a body shot. Later that day, when we were in the studio, I decided to see if I could capture what that experience might be like in a song. It was really fun to write and it already goes down a storm when I perform it live!”

Kaci and Ludacris recently shot a music video for “Body Shots” which you can see below: Battaglia says, “Ludacris and I had an incredible time shooting the clip with European director, Stephanie Pistel – working in studios in both New York and Miami.  We took a very symbolic approach to the video and hope that we came up with something classy, fresh and fun.”

“Body Shots” was written by Kaci with long-time collaborators Michael Grant, Arianna Wilson, and Jarreau and Trevor Pitts.  The song is the second release taken from her upcoming album “Bring It On”.  “Much like this new single, the album title came to me quite easily,” says Battaglia. “I was inspired by personal positivity and power. I am ready for anything that comes my way – and in fact, I can’t wait!”

Kaci had much success with her 2009 debut “Crazy Possessive” which she describes as “an electro-pop dance track with an edge – definitely aggressive, which fits the song, but a lot of fun.  It is a strong topic with a positive message, and a lot of girls are able to relate to it.”

World Famous Songstress Aaliyah! R.I.P

It’s hard to believe that it was 9 years ago today (6:15pm EST) that the life of Aaliyah Haughton was cut short in a tragic plane crash in Marsh Harbor bahamas. She had just wrapped up shooting her music video for her hit song “Rock The Boat”. It seems that Aaliyah and her production crew were anxious to head back to the states and left a day earlier than planned. Aaliyah also was due to fly out to Australia to shoot her part in Matrix Reloaded.

I personally didn’t become aware of Aaliyah until the allegations that she at 15 years old had married her then producer R. Kelly in a private ceremony in 94. I oddly enough actually got to meet Aaliyah in 1997. When I met Aaliyah she was enjoying the success of her single “If Your Girl Only Knew.”

As I remember her, she was so vibrant and fun. Very down to Earth considering her age and popularity. I remember her showing up for her 4th shoot of the day at around midnight for a magazine, and still being so much fun and so nice to everyone on the set. I really wondered how she did it. How was she able to be poked and prodded and pulled in so many directions yet keep her composure. Certainly a lesson to be taken here by oh so MANY of today’s celebrities and want to be celebs.

Aaliyah certainly delivered. Not only was she an incredible performer but also an incredible person. It is understandable that so many miss her influence. And I for one wonder what songs would she have burning up the charts right now if it had not been for that unfortunate accident.

The below video is a tribute to Aaliyah! As always, please feel free to share your comments, memories, or thoughts.

DEA Seeks EBONICS Translators – WTF?

DEA Seeks Ebonics Translators

(CNN) — Wanted by the Drug Enforcement Administration: Ebonics translators.

It might sound like a punch line, as “Ebonics” — the common name for what linguists call African-American English — has long been the butt of jokes, as well as the subject of controversy.

But the agency is serious about needing nine people to translate conversations picked up on wiretaps during investigations, Special Agent Michael Sanders said Tuesday. A solicitation was sent to contractors as part of a request to companies to provide hundreds of translators in 114 languages.

“DEA’s position is, it’s a language form we have a need for,” Sanders said. “I think it’s a language form that DEA recognizes a need to have someone versed in to conduct investigations.”

The translators, being hired in the agency’s Southeast Region — which includes Atlanta, Georgia; Washington; New Orleans, Louisiana; Miami, Florida; and the Caribbean — would listen to wiretaps, translate what was said and be able to testify in court if necessary, he said.

“The concept is right and good,” said Walt Wolfram, distinguished professor of English linguistics at North Carolina State University. “Why wouldn’t you want experts who can help you understand what people are communicating?”

“On one level, it’s no different than someone from the Outer Banks of North Carolina who speaks a distinct brogue,” he said. “The problem is that even the term ‘Ebonics’ is so controversial and politicized that it becomes sort of a free-for-all.”

Wolfram — who has authored more than 20 books on English dialects, including African-American English — recalled the Black Panther trials during the 1970s, when there was debate over whether the saying, “Off the pigs,” was a genuine threat to kill police officers or a more metaphorical saying.

And Ebonics is no longer spoken only by African-Americans, Sanders said, referring to it as “urban language” or “street language.” He said he is aware of investigations in recent years in which it was spoken by African-Americans, Latinos and white people. “It crosses over geographic, racial and ethnic backgrounds,” he said.

While the DEA wants to have the translators available, it may not need to call upon them, he said. He did not know how much it would cost to have the translators available.

“I can’t say it’s spoken all the time, like Spanish and Vietnamese,” Sanders said. “But there are people trying to use this to evade detection” while trafficking in drugs, he said.

Asked whether agency currently has agents who can translate Ebonics, Sanders said some who have worked on local police forces can help pick out words on wiretaps.

The term “Ebonics” — a blend of “ebony” and “phonics” — became known in 1996, when the Oakland, California, Unified School District proposed using it in teaching English. After the school board came under fire, it voted to alter the plan, which recognized Ebonics as a distinct language.

The revised plan removed reference to Ebonics as “genetically based” and as the “primary language” of students. The board also removed a part that some understood to indicate that African-American students would be taught in Ebonics, although the board denied such intentions.

“There is something of substance here,” said Wolfram, who said he has studied African-American English for 40 years. “There are differences in terms of language and lexicon and so forth that are difficult to understand for most people. So it is an issue. What, of course, happens is, it gets politicized and trivialized by the very term ‘Ebonics.’”

He acknowledged it’s often presented as “nothing but bad language.” But, he said, “However you view it … why wouldn’t you want to avail yourself of all the interpretive capability that you can get?”

African-American English is “a systematic language variety, with patterns of pronunciation, grammar, vocabulary and usage that extend far beyond slang,” according to the website of the Center for Applied Linguistics, a Washington-based nonprofit organization that says it aims to improve communication through better understanding of language and culture.

“Because it has a set of rules that is distinct from those of standard American English, characterizations of the variety as bad English are incorrect,” the center said. “Speakers of AAE do not fail to speak standard American English, but succeed in speaking African American English.”

Language barriers that contribute to conflicts between nations can be a “serious issue,” Wolfram noted. “It’s the same point here.”

He said the translators could help in investigations, as “the differences between dialect and code words can get pretty blurry at times.”

Sanders said DEA plans to continue seeking the translators.

Spencer Pratt Selling Heidi Montag Sex Tape

Ok so The Hills is FINALLY over! I guess that the new girl Kristen Cavellari couldn’t carry the show after all. I can’t help thinking the producers should have moved Audrina up into the lead spot. But I digress.

I wondered what would happen next with the cast. Well I guess this is one answer. Apparently Spencer Pratt soon to be ex husband of Heidi Montag is shopping around a sex tape of he and Heidi. It was stated that Spencer had made a call to and is now in negotiations with adult video heavy hitter Vivid video. Yes the same company that MADE Jenna Jameson’s career!
Vivid video boss Steven Hirsch tells us, “I just got off the phone with Spencer Pratt about a sex tape with Heidi Montag.”
He continues, “We are in early negotiations to possibly come to terms for a deal.”
Spencer has told a friend that the alleged tape “makes Kim Kardashian look like an amateur.”  I don’t know Spence Kim’s tape was pretty damn incredible! Not that I watched it over and over again.

But this whole sex tape angle should come as no surprise considering the douche bag guys and dumb ass women who were featured on the show.

With tools like Brody Jenner, Justin Bobby flopping about, it’s no wonder that young women these days have no idea what a real man let alone a decent man actually is. And well I’m sure there is no need to even comment on what a tool Spencer Pratt is, and what a dumbass Heidi Montag is.

Ladies; here’s a tip. If everyone in your family hates your boyfriend, every one of your friends hates your boyfriend, and his own family members hate him then you might want to get a stinking clue! Having someone in your life who pulls you away from your friends and family and everything familiar to you is a BAD thing.

But it should be interesting to see how all of this pans out.

Should Disney Allow This Employee To Keep Her Religious Headgear

Should a Muslim employee at Disneyland be allowed to wear a headscarf at work?

That question is at the center of a debate about religious freedom. Imane Boudlal works as a hostess at a Disney-owned restaurant. She filed a discrimination complaint against the entertainment giant Wednesday, saying they have repeatedly sent her home without pay for refusing to remove her headscarf at work.

Disney officials said the hijab would be a departure from the costume policy for Boudlal’s role as hostess.

“It has to do with the costume, every role at Disneyland Resort has a specific costume,” spokeswoman Suzi Brown said, adding that a number of employees wear religious clothing and work behind the scenes.

After reporting to work today in her hijab, Boudlal was told she could only work in a "backstage" role, refusing that assignment she left her job without pay, she will return and try again tomorrow. Why Ghetto Folk Should’t Be On The News

While it’s a horrible experience to wake up and find someone attempting to commit rape, did this news station in Huntsville Alabama really have to put THESE people on television?

Don’t these people realize that they are nothing more than simply entertainment for the rest of us. This was a major fail on the part of the news station. HOWEVER!!!! The saving grace is the video posted below. It makes the entire thing worth watching!
