LL Cool J - The King of Hip Hop

As I have been working on the new upcoming reality show for High Speed Magazine I’ve been thinking a LOT about music, motivation and all the past events that have led me here to this point. And that includes EVERYONE in my past that has either been with me, against me or turned their backs.

It is very easy to become disheartened when you’re on a quest and things just aren’t working out the way you’d hoped or people keep getting in your way. Worse yet is when people you thought were your friends and on your team prove they simply aren’t. This led me to think about others who have gone through the same things and sparked thoughts to hip – hop music.

Why? Well because no other genre’ of music chronicles struggles to success than Hip Hop. And that led me to think about LL Cool J who I will say is hands down the reigning king of Hip Hop, and I dare you to prove other wise.

LL Cool J

LL Cool J has endured for almost 3 decades, and is arguably one of the only hip hop artists to lead the way in diversifying his portfolio of performance branching out into television as well as movies. Starting with his role in the classic Michael J. Fox movie “The Hard Way” Since then LL Cool J has been blazing his way in media. And no matter what he’s maintained a clean cut image regardless of what he’s doing.

The other day my MP3 player randomly selected a track that I hadn’t heard before, (The benefit of having 3TB of music) and I thought to myself, this sounds very much like LL Cool J. The name of the track was “Time For War” from his exit 13 album. Oddly enough I had no idea that he had any new albums out but I digress.

This track pretty much said everything that I’ve been feeling lately with the high volumes of people I find who are out and out haters or frienemies in my path. As I listened to the track I found that it is a track I could certainly relate to.

I particularly enjoyed the verse where he says “I always shine brighter when I’m under attack. I might be down for a moment but I always come back.”  There are numerous other powerful verses in this track that will infuse you with power and purpose!

Beyond burning up turntables and the movie screen LL Cool J plays Sam Hanna a former Navy SeAL on CBS’ hit spin-off show N.C.I.S Los Angeles also starring Chris O’Donell.

Without a doubt LL Cool J is the undisputed King of all Hip Hop! Long Live The King!
